never really thought about this, but my computer has no sound!
it doesn't seem to have external speakers, but wen I stuck my eadphones into the outlet, I still get nothing???
My slightly more technical younger brother has suggested something about a soundcard???
all this is about as much use as a chocolate teapot to me - so any suggestions???
- kev (serves me right for buying some dodgy 2nd and computer!)

Regarding your sound problem, there could be one of two things causing the problem.

1. As your bro says there may not be a sound card in your computer. If this is the case the only course of action there is to BUY A SOUND CARD
2. (and this is more likely) you do not have the correct drivers for the sound card installed in your computer. To find out here's what to do:

1. Right Click on MY COMPUTER, Choose Properties then Device Manager, then Click on Audio, if you see any yellow Question Marks, you have drivers missing.
2. Do this then let me know the outcome.

Hi ed - following option 2 (much apreciated btw!) - I go into device manager, then there is no 'audio' option, there is however a 'sound, video & game controllers ' bit, which I go into, and it gives me a long list of 6 different things:
audio codecs
legacy audio drivers
leagcy video capture devices
media control devices
video codecs
vinyl AC'97codec combo driver (WDM)

- each with a little speaker symbol to the left of it - which one of these do I select??? - all of them???
help!
- kev

I've checked all of the above options and they all say 'device is working correctly' - with not a yellow question mark in sight!

- is there a way of checking if I have a sound card installed???
- and more important - are they expensive to buy?!?!?

Ok, if there are no question marks by any of them, it could mean that either A. You have no sound card or B. You do have one but you need to configure it in Windows.
Sound cards should you need one are not hugely expensive, and I can fit it for you FOC
Go into CONTROL PANEL and check that nothing is MUTED.

After that it's time for a bit of fettling in your computer :D
